Adrian, what suberb do you live in??
Even if you just want to do a quick job on it on
Friday afternoon/night, I could probably spare a couple of hours.
All you really need is a hammer, a can of bog,
(depending on the size of the rust holes maybee some fine mesh
sheeting so the bog has something to hold onto) a orbital sander and some
paint.
I have a orbital sander, a huge extention
cord and a hammer.
If you supply the sandpaper, the paint, the bog and
a couple of ice cold cokes, I recon we could get it looking sweet in a
afternoon.
I finish TAFE at 10.30 AM on Friday so the rest of
the day is free at this moment.
It won't be really flash, like welding new panels
in but it will do the job and keep the scrutineers happy.
I am guessing as it has rust it is a genuine colour
still??
White, red or poo brown? Any how it shouldn'r be
hard to get some paint close to it in a can.

P.S you might of seen me around, I help out with a
couple of cars,
Bright green FX Corolla (Owned by Nigel Anderson I
think that is his surname?),
and the white stanza with the 13B P.P (Owned by
Pete Marsh, Greg Weryk and Rob Button).
There is also a Bright yellow Honda civic (Mike
Rowstan) that lives in the same Bayswater workshop.
I am not a member of the club myself as I do not
have a car to use at this moment in time, maybee soon though if I get a couple
of spare dollars to get my 200B SSS Coupe shell bolted together, and not be out
spending money on my 1600 sedan parts I have been getting for the 1970 SSS
1600 restoration project I will also be doing.

The rust at the
moment in places would definitely cut a few inspectors fingers ;) So tomorrow
I'll go and scrub away at it with some anti-rust gear and see how it comes up.
Don't have any equipment at home, so makes it hard if it needs
proper patching. Next weeks I'll definitely find out about competition
regoing it and checking that list. Too many things on at the moment and not
enough time before the first event so a nice trailer trip out to bindoon on
Sunday (but at least if she breaks down I can still get home as was pointed
out by an organiser ;) But Datsuns don't break down right!! Oh, hang on maybe
if I crash it.

The rego people here in Perth, don't mind rust
aslong as they can wipe their hand down the whole car with out getting cut
by rust.
Why not do a quick fix with the rust, and take
it over the pits, new rego will also help with any scrutineering.
I know of a lot of people who do compete in the
local W.A. scene, and regoed cars don't get looked over as hard as non
regoed cars during scrutineering.
I do know the scrutineerers do like to
look after the officials and recovery crews, they do not like
recovering cars that could be dangerous, even mild cuts and abbrasions from
a little rust that could be easilly fixed or patched up before a
event.
Main things to look for here in W.A. when going
over the pits are, clean engine bays, not too noisy exhaust
system,
(reverse light switches working I got pinged on this one) I went up the road sprayed CRC on
the switch and went back and passed, steering components and bushes can't
have any slack (nothing rattling around) and good pressure in the braking
system. Handbrake must work, as should the handbrake warning light on the
dash, indicator lenses, tailights, brake lights, and
headlights.
Any how good luck with it, and have fun with
your events, you might want to catch up with us maybee, my mates have a
Stanza, but with 13B P.P. in the engine bay.
Which car club are you in??

Hi.
Hope someone
can help with a few questions. I have an unregistered Datsun Stanza
in Perth, West AU. It runs great and as far as I can tell would be pretty
much road worthy.
A nice set of
rally tyres now adorns it as I will be competing in gravel khanacross club
events. I really don't want to have to tow it to each event and apparently
I can get a Concessional Vehicle Licence for it that will allow me to
drive to and from events and to and from any garage
work.
I don't think
my club is a 'vintage car club' and I think the car has to be 25yrs old
(it's a 1979) and these are requirements to get this licence, but ignoring
these has anyone got one of these licences and how strict are they giving
them out in Perth? The car has some rust under where the boot closes on
one side and at the base of two of the doors, that's
it.
Or if I was to
try and road register it how strict would they be on the
rust?
