Probably a completely different thing but when my datto was dying randomly it was because the vacuum advance was hitting an extra long screw when it advanced so was basically acting as a kill switch... Mr NRMA (roadside assistance) put a little spacer in and hey presto, problem solved.

Yeah the filter has be changed about 2 weeks ago, also it has a full
tank of petrol.
