Subject: RE: fitting kits
Leighton,
Indeed they aren't all that obvious at first looks. The passenger side
mount is the one with the larger plate (~6.5" x 5") with 4 holes in it that is
the block mounting side (it uses the holes closest to the turbo intake
and the next two forward and you may have to remove the compressor if it has
one (I can't remember for sure if they fit with the compressor on the
engine. I've always removed it for no other reason than to get rid of it
so I can get at what I'm doing with the turbo plumbing) and the two
holes (one smaller one above a larger one) is for bolting it up to the stock
1600 insulator - the smaller insulator locator hole is at the top. On the
drivers side the insulator holes are forward of the mounting holes to the
block and there are only 2 holes for the block mounting this side, and
likewise the smaller insulator locator hole is upper most.
If you have a R30 engine with the electric oil sender still in
place you have to either carefully remove the sender and adapter and use your
L series one (same thread 1/8" BPT) or some folks just grind the mount to
clear the R30 oil pressure sender adapter. The R30 only had a gauge so if wish
to use both then you will need to do the changeover to your L series setup.
Be extremely careful if you decide to remove the oil sender adapter as
the ridge in the block near it is very brittle and prone to breaking away with
the adapter, so give it plenty of penetrating oil beforehand so it releases
it's grip on the block thread.
Hope
this helps you out,
regards
Terry
to all you people out there who have fitting
and FJ to you 1600 using a fitting kit i was wondering if you could help
me???
i have just got mine in the mail from
stewart wilkins motorsport???
