After three years of Classic rallying we finally
met our match in competing in the Classic Rally Club's "South Coast Run"
this weekend. Kim and I were ready for
the first two day classic this year in our 2.0 litre Stanza. (the
Stanza is booked in for a full dyno tune next week as I hope to see it
hit 200Km/hr at the creek on my next visit, last visit pushing out 91
Kilowatts ATW, I got up to a genuine 188Km/hr)
The Stanza went like a dream as we drove to the
start point of Mittagong. (though Kim was feeling a little off colour)
Instructions were received and the 33 competitors were off to Merimbula for
the day Via Kangaroo Valley and other winding roads.
Unfortunately weariness set in and and
the traffic on the roads and obscurity of instructions turned what
should have been a fun weekend into a tedious and boring "are we there
yet" drive.
Arriving two hours late for our lunch time check
in (as did over half the field) we withdrew from the rally and went to dinner
at our favourite South Coast restaurant " The Waterside" at Ulladulla and
spent the night at a romantic getaway in Mollymook. " (Their 5 course
and 5 glasses of South Coast wine special is great and great value for $70.00
a head)
Today we raced back up through Kangaroo Valley
(being held up by a silver 01 WRX) and to an early finish at
home.
So we missed out on the rally, the go carting and
all the other events being held this weekend, but had a great meal and a few
bucketfuls of fine wine. The Stanza and
more IMPORTANTLY our marriage are still together, ready for our next
battle.
