usually, if a dissy has  just 2 wires coming out of it, it is a reluctor
type setup...e.g a spinning maganet spins past  a coil of wire, the magnet
iduces a voltage in the coil , via this u get your triggering pulse for the
electronics to trigger the coil.

if you have  a dissy with  3 wires , then more than likely  it will be a
hall effect setup, this works when a spining maganet  spins past  a
semiconductor that detects magnetic fields,   one wire is output,the others
are power and earth.

if you have a dissy with  (i think?????) 5 wires , more than likely this is
a optical setup, there is a chopper disc and  two  LEDS, one is a
transmitter , and the other is a receiver, a  chopper disc with holes/slots
spins in between the two  LEDS there by   breaking  the  light beam ,  and
sending a pulse.
