With L24E and L28E's sold in Oz (ie R30 Skyline and 280ZX) there is no crank
angle sensing as such. The ECU simply 'counts' the number of ignition pulses
(reluctor type electronic ign sensor) and fires the injectors every 3rd pulse. Now
your wondering why every 3rd......well with L-Jet systems each injector firing
delivers half the amount of fuel req'd by the engine, so for a complete engine cycle
(6 ign pulses) the full amount of fuel is delivered....and so it goes on. This system
gives better fuel control. The earlier D-Jetronic system (Volvo 164E, some
Mercedes Benz models) actually fired the injectors once per injector cycle and
injectors from those cars give big flow rates.

Some import L28E's and L28ET's actually did have a crank angle sensor bolted to
the harmonic balancer. It was a big multi-toothed disc with a sensor (magnetic
type, I think but possibly hall effect) bolted to the air-con compressor bracket.
This was a very early version of Nissan's ECCS engine management system.
