Generally you're not going to get accurate enough readings with DIY kits. I was looking into tuning my Haltech via laptop to save some $$$. For a rough tune, conservatively rich you'd be okay with a cheap unit, but if the ecu is measuring mV from the sender you need to calibrate it with something accurate like the $2,000 A/F mixture measuring devices used at Dyno workshops - might as well be doing the tune then too.

Importantly if you're tuning for power and leaning off to the optimum of around 11.8:1 then you want to make sure the A/F mixtures are measuring accurately or holed piston or something before you realise what's going on. Closed-loop oxygen sensor is usually used for non-critical running during idle and cruise - NOT under max power/boost so I'd not be trusting them at this time.

From another post the following link is interesting reading:

Evening List,

I have just got my FJ running and in the process of doing a basic tune on my FJ using the Micro Tech MTX8 handset. I need to know my air/fuel ratio, any ideas on how to obtain this info? I have a oxygen sensor if that helps.

Cheers,
