Saturday 12 July saw 65 cars line up for the Jaguar Club Lukey Mountain
Rally. An assorted field of cars with some outstanding ones including 1973
Convertible V12 E-Type. A heavily modified 6.0 litre V12 FHC E-type with
quad side exhausts. This car belted out flames up to 300 mm long as it down
shifted. A compulsorily red 1960's Ferrari 250. The most immaculate 68
Mustang I have ever seen. An assortment of Mercedes and other Jaguars,
Minis, a perfectly presented Black with Green Connelly leather interior
Austin 1800 ute, Sunbeam Tiger V8, A late 60s Prince Skyline, the first of
the Nissan Muscle cars, a 260 Z a Fluorescent yellow BMW 3.0 litre CSL, 3
Alfa Romeo 105 GTV 2000 and other classics. The new car field was well
represented with the yet to be released 400 horsepower Supercharged V8
Jaguar XJ/R being spiritedly driven by a Jaguar executive and a Purple
Porsche Carrera 4s being the two stand outs.

Our 200B powered Stanza certainly looked a poor cousin to the exotic
vehicles that surrounded it

An icy morning in Lithgow and the competitors receive their instructions.
Departing for Wallerawang, Tarana and other towns on a 240 kilometre run to
Orange. The instructions were well thought out being the right amount of
cryptic clues to cause pain to the navigator and yet not enough to cause
cardiac arrest.

Lunch was at the lovely Lake Canoblas where we had ample time to plot our
route to take us the 230 kilometres to Young. The countryside was much
greener than on our last visit to these areas last November and livestock
and grass was more prevalent. Why take a direct straight route when there
was a perfectly good winding road with 7 rail crossings, a good amount of
recently levelled gravel and corners that required heel and toe braking the
selection of a lower gear and the opportunity to see flames emerge if you
were luck enough to catch a glimpse of the 6.0 litre E type.

Roads we had never seen took us to towns we had never heard of until we
finally arrived at Young. Cherry Capital Of Australia.. BUT unfortunately 5
months too early for the cherries. A great three course meal at the local
club and then to a much needed sleep. (Thank goodness there was an air
conditioner in the room)

An icy below 0 degree start with most cars having a considerable layer of
ice blanketing them. The hose was ice so could not be used to wash away the
ice. Breakfast for 160 at the famous JD Jam factory where our breakfast
consisted of fresh fruit, Corn Flakes, Nutri Grain, hot chips, sausages,
bacon, eggs, grilled tomato BUT NO JAM.

The final instructions are taken and its is a 300 kilometre puzzle of a tour
to Goulburn where lunch will await us at the Old Goulburn Brewery.

A most enjoyable weekend, well worth the $395.00 per car including all
meals, accommodation and entry. And a big thank you to the Jaguar club for
the most exciting classic rally of the 7 I have entered yet.

Oh and we tied first in our Novice category with 30 entrants.
