mark, I asked a mate who is into VLs..
The RB30 ecu is a Nissan ECCS ecu. The auto ecu has an auto gearbox ECU and they are semi-integrated. The turbo ECU is also different to the non-turbo ECU and non-interchangeable.
They are completely different to VN onwards ECU.
Zac,
with VL's and R31's auto's have a transmission 'TCU' which is
separate from the ECU and they aren't directly linked (the R31 TCU is
under the passenger seat). VLT and VL NA ECU's are different,
but interchangeable....the only wiring difference is that the VLT ECU
has an extra wire for the knock sensor. VLT ECU's can also be
plugged into R31 looms, but, apart from the knock sensor difference,
the way the VLT ECU controls the fuel pump is different, but no big
deal.
There are differences between the auto and manual ECU's, but they
are generally interchangeable. Have a look at this site for a
