Go to Revs and check out the fold-down style of bonnet pins they have, I think they should be fine for a rego as they don't "protrude" out of the bonnet like the old fashioned posts do.
Otherwise they sell a old-style leather bonnet/boot strap which you can use, and this should be 100% safe for a pedestrian. > That would NEVER pass rego in NSW man...
