I have only used Debian (a while ago), Gentoo (currently using) and Redhat. For a first effort I would avoid Gentoo, but Redhat has always seemed easy to use to me, I would say that its installation procedure is about similar to windows for difficulty. Because redhat is very popular you can get help on it very easily too. It is a bit of a learning curve to switch to linux, but to be honest it really isnt bad at all.
