Robyn,
Stock
1600 (Aus spec) rims are 13 x 4.5" 100mm backspaced, 4 x 4.5" (or 114.3mm in new
speak) PCB and the standard tyre sizes are 165x13 if you can still get
them, BR78x13 - revolutions per mile is 885 - 890 depending on
brand of tyre. Factory dealer optional mags are 13 x 5.5" (ROH Contessa)
with 185/70 x13 and RPM is 895 - 900 with these fitted.
240K
wheels are 14 x 5.5" and backspace is also 100mm (so you don't have any track
issues as it is widened by only 8mm (hub height difference in case they can't
figure that out either) - legal limit without engineers report is +26mm) so the
legal tyre size for that wheel on a 1600 is 185/65x14 - Bridgestone Potenza
RE92 in that size do 886 RPM and that within the legal limits. Another
legal tyre size is 195/60x14 (894 RPM) but 240K rims are at the lower
approved limit i.e. 5.5" - 7.0" and I don't particularly recommend this size as
they are better suited to 6.0" rims.
Take
this information to ACT rego before you buy to make absolutely sure that they
agree with me - I've had many a discussion with them on such matters over the
years, and won most of them. They may force you to use 195/60x14 which will be
OK but handling wise the 185/65 x 14 will be better with far less side wall
flex. You are allowed + or -15mm overall diameter of the wheel & tyre
combination over standard under the National Vehicle Standards Guidelines which
the ACT RTA seems to choose to use when they feel like it.
Overall diameter info:
13x4.5
with 165SR13 - 599mm (+-15mm range 584mm - 614mm)
14x5.5
with 185/65 - 597mm (legal)
14x6.0
with 195/60 - 592mm (legal)
The
NSW RTA website has most of the Vehicle standards information sheets and is
mostly up to date - this is the link http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi_dl1.html #9 is the one
that you are after.
Good
luck with them,
regards
Terry

Subject: Rolling Diameter- HelpHey All, I have what I believe are stock 240k wheels on my stock 1600 but seeing as they are 14" they won't pass rego. What size tyres do I need to put on them to make them legal? Or has anyone got a set of stockies in the ACT (or willing to ship) that they want to sell... Any help greatly appreciated.
