I have reinstalled my operating system a number of times at home. I am always amazed at how much faster the machine runs after a good hard drive format & complete reinstall.......Its surprisingly quick to do, the thing that takes the most time is reinstalling all of the programs that i use.
btw i use win98se so not sure how hard xp is to reinstall cheers Jeff -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, August 31, 2004 9:49 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: XP question Importance: High OK, I'd like to partially retract my "glorification" of SP2 that I made the other day... :D Sp2 does some weird ^%$#, here are some things I've noticed on a perfectly normal system: 1. Shut-down must now be done by pushing the start button, "Turn Off Computer" etc... If I use the "power" shutdown button on my windows keyboard (which is easier coz my computer tower lives in a cable jungle deep under my table), it appears to shut down normally but when I boot up again it does a scandisk as though I didn't shut it down properly. 2. MSN messenger 6.2 loads twice now, I get 2 icons next to the time, one is normal and one is black. But sometimes the icon disappears, then later it'll come back. 3. My virus checker (Mcafee) icon also disappears from next to the time (is this called the tray or something???) I'm gunna try re-installing this. However virus scanning in outlook XP is still active. 4. Some programs now give me stupid warnings that they won't work, but then they work fine. Nero v6 is one such example. Bring on SP2a I reckon. Not a complete success. It seems that Microsoft are getting "closer" to the perfect software solution, but never seem to get it quite right, since 1980something they've always screwed it up somehow. Is my computer running slower now? Hmmmm -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Brad Morton Sent: Monday, 30 August 2004 11:19 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: XP question I think that's a blanket statement that is patently untrue. I have 20+ systems under my direct control and probably 3000 in the country which run XP Pro and Nvidia Detonators without ANY problems. XP default Nvidia drivers perhaps may have some issues but not the Detonators. The only problem I have found in deployment of SP2 is that sometimes our software activation system is triggered (not XP's, the software we provide). Speaking to other people who have had issues all of them have had problems with the single-file MSDN version and most of them are running 64-bit architecture. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rob P Sent: Monday, 30 August 2004 6:29 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: XP question Nvidia and XP Pro have compatability issues in my experience. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry Rudd" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, August 28, 2004 7:59 AM Subject: RE: XP question > And so has mine since I downloaded SP2 although I had to install an updated > driver for my 3Com 3C920 network card.
