L18W blocks are Japanese manufactured and have thicker cylinder walls. They can be bored out to 89mm (just under 2 litres displacement) with less risk of block failure from thin walled cylinders. These make a better "2 Litre" performance engine than a standard L20B, which gets its 2 litre displacement from a longer stroke.  L20Bs are lower compression and pull strongly at lower revs but run out of breath earlier and need big port heads, higher compression pistons (flat tops) and big carbs to develop big power over 5500RPM.  A big bore L18(W) fitted with a ported A87 head will rev easier and develop good power for less work (and less money).   Of course more money (and work) will always deliver more power from an overbored and stroked  (2.4 litre?)
