The one i had didn`t.
It was ok at idle and accelerating but as soon as
you coasted or backed off or changed gear it made a horrible
screeching/squealing noise, a bit like drying a wheel bearing with compressed
air.
Lucky it happened close to home and not
in Latrobe Valley (Vic) where i had just come from!!
Chucked the bolts away and put in new
ones.

well. it sounds like its right infront of you
like at the firewall. so thats what im assuming..
And because it
only happens when im in gear with no accelerator on.. doesn tmatter what
speed. could be going 80kph in 4th, let off the pedal
and it might start to rattle. this makes me think its definatly
engine/gear box..

Does the sound definately come from the
engine???
Could be something equally stupid like wheel
bearings.

the mechanic then... explode in a million bits doesnt sound too

Someone might've tied a glass bottle to your car with a piece
of string...
Ok.. ill explain the symptoms and if
anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated..
Its on a
manual transmition.
The car makes this rattling noise..
if you can picture in your head someone dragging a glass bottle on
a string along the road... thats what it kkinda sounds like. its
very loud, and can be heard clearly within the car while
driving.
It only makes this sounds sometimes.
when IN gear with no gas on. if you are in neutral, or you have
the clutch it, or you give the accelerator even the slightest
push.. the noise stops.
A common time it will happen,, a
small round about. you come up to it, shift down to second,
and say you were turning right, as soon as you take your foot off
the accelerator the rattling starts up... you put the pedal down
to exit the round about and it goes away..
So yes.. any
ideas?
