Hi there all, this has just been sent to the Bluebirds list. I never met the man, but know he was one of the great men of Turbo L series buildups. Without such people around maybee 1600 wiould not be as sought over as they are now.
Anyhow, he is in the big race track in the sky now, with all the fallen 510's/1600's Rick White. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jason Gray" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 06, 2005 11:35 AM Subject: Fw: Turbo Tom I was recently contacted by a family member of legendary 510 builder Tom Waite AKA "turbo tom" with the sad news that Tom and his girlfriend were recently killed in a car wreck. I had not personally met Tom but was definilty influenced by his turbo datsun work through the years. Tom's sister had found his name on my web page and wanted to get the word out of his passing to the 510 community. The family has established a online guestbook where comments can be left at: http://tinyurl.com/4b7r4 for reference, Toms original website is ; http://www.turbotom.com/cars.htm Roll on JMA. My brother loved his 510 and he loved building them, They were his children.(never had human kids). Tom was the inspiration for many a "motorhead" including me. I learned allot about cars and how to work on them, He save me allot of money and kept me from getting screwed by many a unscrupulous mechanic( in fact they were quite embarrassed to find out I knew so much) thanks to Turbo. There is also a Obituary in the Atlanta Journal Const. paper yesterday. Also there is a guestbook on-line so that anyone can sign, from anywhere, it will be maintained until Feb 5th 2005. so feel free to mention it in that e-mail. I would love to know of my brothers impact on everyone. Thank again. -Pat -------Original Message------- From: Jason Gray Date: 02/06/05 02:04:24 To: Pat Subject: Re: turbo tom I am very sorry to hear of the loss to your family. A series of 510 articles that Tom wrote for a newsletter back about 15 years ago were the guiding inspiration for building my own turbo 510 so in a sense he did have an impact on me, though we never met. If you dont mind, I will make a post to a datsun 510 e-mail list group with the sad news, there are likely dozens of other 510 enthusiast that have met Tom and who will sadly mark his passing. Tom was never a member of the 510 e-mail list hit his mechanical creations and exploits are legenday. I know what a brilliant man he was and a genius when it came to cars. if you could pass this info along and let people know. We would appreciate it greatly. We will also be doing a Tribute to Tom on his web site soon. Also his 510 and MR2 might be put up for sale by the person handling his estate. -Pat -------Original Message------- From: Jason Gray Date: 02/04/05 21:13:17 To: Pat Subject: Re: turbo tom yes, the same ----- Original Message ----- From: Pat To: Jason Gray Sent: Friday, February 04, 2005 11:35 AM Subject: Re: turbo tom Just to be sure we are speaking of the correct Turbo Tom (Tom Wyatt) is this The Turbo Tom know? -Pat -------Original Message------- From: Jason Gray Date: 02/04/05 11:33:56 To: Pat Subject: Re: turbo tom Ive never met Tom, just read some of his car writing.
