Yeah I don't get it either...

Anyway as for your wheel arch, sometimes its hard to get the lines right. You 
may be better getting a replacement section and welding it in. Finding rust on 
the arch really sucks man, I feel for you.

As for your missus, dont worry about her, get the rust stopped. Then sort the 
minor problems out.
