Of the
two diff types, I would go for an LSD (if cost is no option) as the LSD is a
little easier on drive shafts.
As
Jeff said, beam axles are a lot easier to setup for drag
use.
With
IRS, you can still get a good result if you use low rate (around 600
lb) rear springs so you get rear weight transfer to get of the line. The
problem with using lower rate springs is that as the suspension squats
during weight transfer, you get camber change that reduces the
tyre contact surface and increases stress on universal joints
in drive shafts with the large drive direction change.
One
way to solve the camber change problem is to limit control arm travel
with adjustable rising rate elastomer spring bump stops. I am doing this on
my coupe rear arms. To solve the uni type drive shaft problems
and generally improve the rear drive train performance, I am having
R30 drive shafts modified to suit the R180. If you are using an R200 use
280ZX shafts. The CV shafts dont break and power losses are minimal
through larger angle changes.
Cheers

How
about not having IRS for a start !
IRS is
notorious for having traction problems with high HP engines.
