One option is to repaint the exisiting 1600 speedo face with KPH calibrations - an instrument repairer could do this, or if your handy with computer graphics you can do it yourself.

Have a look at a 240K Coupe speedo.  These were built at the same time by the same company.  They have the same speedo drive and are geared to the same cable speeds as modified 1600's, particularly if you run a 240K type gearbox.  These speedos are calibrated in KPH on a 0 - 240kph scale.  If the complete speedo itself doesnt fit into the instrument cluster, the face of the speedo may, and using the same calibration theory above, the 1600 needle should point to the correct KPH.

Another alternative is to instal both the 240K speedo and tacho into the 1600 instrument panel.  They have the same "period" look.

If you want to extend on this idea, a third alternative is to fit a full 240K dash assembly into the 1600.  This has been done in Australia.  It gives you access to a full set of instruments fitted across the dash and looks factory installed if done properly.  There is a bit of work to fitting the full 240K dash in a 1600 but its not beyond the home mechanic. Shrinking the width about 1cm is required, and fabricating brackets to bolt both the 240K dash ends to the 1600 dash mounts.  It fits pretty well across the windscreen.  Wiring and cabling are not too difficult as the technology and fittings are the same era. Also allows a neat "flow" into a centre console.
