L20B: 85mm bore x 86mm stroke, as opposed to L24 - 83mm bore x 73.7 mm stroke (RB26 - 86mm x 73.7 mm) L20B has a 285.5 mm block height, 145.9 mm con rod length, 38.1 mm piston pin height.

I suppose you may be able to use other pistons 89mm KA24 pistons for a large bore, and RB30 con rods possible, 152.7 mm Use a head gasket thats an 1 extra mm thick, along with shaving 1.2mm off the pistons.

This would give 89mm bore x 92.8 mm stroke, giving 2309 cc, a "L23B", should be possible to do, not neccessarily with those parts...

not sure about the compression ratop, maybe around 9.2:1 based on ratio, probably more around 10 though...

should give near 160 horsepower, from 112,
and something like 150 ft-lbs of torque, though at like 2500 rpm instead instead of 108 @ 3200

This is mostly off the top of my head.... so specifically what I've listed I'm not sure if you can or not...

Though you can get a high capacity L20B on decent power...

Hi there,

What is the bore size of the L20b and is it easy to get flat top pistons
for L20b's.will any other datsun engine flat top piston fit in the L20b.

No the L20B was a bit poor in output, due to its low compression for
emissions reasons. From memory around the same output as a stock L18.

You keep the L20B head but replace the low compression deep dished
pistons
with flat tops to increase compression, then you can gain real power
increases with further breathing via porting, head shaving and cam
profile .

Hi guys,
Still on the same topic...the L20b engine is it got more power then the
L18 in STD form. to get more power from the L20b engine what is the
easiest way to do it.

I guess L20b is a low compression engine and by changing the cylinder
head you get some power, is it true.

Around 170 crank hp is achievable.

A 2 litre will give better bang for your buck.

Speaking of L16's
what sort of power output can be made from an L16 ?
anybody got any rough idea of cost v HP for them ?

I am forward thinking to next year once I have my suspension sorted out
weather I should think about an engine transplant or just spend money on
improving the engine that I already have.
