I
think 3mm steel may be ok, if the box section bar to strut top
angles are low. Wont cost you much to find out if it does bend under
load.

for my datto, would 3mm plate be good enough? that
would be laser cut to suit with a 50mm x 25mm (2mm / 2.5mm wall) boxing
