Cant help with local knowledge but here a few suggestions.
If your 200B is an early imported 1977 model with Independant Rear Suspension
this is a great start as you get better grip from the IRS and the ability to
bolt in larger R200 (8inch) Limited Slip Diffs from later model Skylines and
180/200SX. A Navara/or Datsun 720 4wd front diff is suitable for these IRS.
These have LS and have great ratio for rallying - 4.6 (petrol) or 5.1(deisel)
to 1. If you find a 82/4 Skyline you can bo;t in the front struts,
flywheel/clutch, gearbox and diff (if yours is an IRS)
Gearboxes from almost all L Series engined 6 cyl Datsuns (240K, Skylines,
240Zeds, bolt into the 200B. These 5 speeds are much better than the 4 speed
Borg Warner box that was standard fitting to the Aussi built 200B. The best is
an early Zed box with a 2.9 to 1 first gear ratio. '82 - '84 (Series 1 and
2)Nissan Bluebird boxes are a readily obtained alternative, if the six cylinder
boxes are hard to get.
The 200B engine is pretty good. With a better compression ratio (fit flat top
pistons) and breathing improvements, cam, twin webers, head job, 200BHP is
possible with really good engine work. 180BHP is pretty easy to get, and
reliable. The stock exhaust manifold is a collectors item as this model has
better breathing than all the other L series castings. If turboing is
allowable, the stock L20B engine is perfect, as its already a low 7.8 to 1
compression ratio and can handle big turbo boost. Use a 6 cylinder engine
flywheel and clutch setup. These bolt on and are bigger diameter than the
stock 200B ones.
I have seen a 200B rally car in Victoria fitted with a 240Z engine. Goes well
but its a tight fit in the engine bay.
Front struts. It pays to get really well built struts such as Peter Davis "wet
legs". The "traditional" 240K legs bolt in, but if you have an aussi built
200B, you can fit bigger Commodore calipers and Magna/Verada vented discs to
those struts. Upgrade these struts with quality gas cartridge inserts.

I have a Datto 200b that I would like to modify to take on the dirt - rally
style. I understand there will have to be modz to the
engine/gearbox/diff/suspension/chassis. No stranger to building cars - my last
project was an EH with a V6. I would like some advice on contacts for parts
within the Maitland/Newcastle area to get this project underway. Anyone who has
built a rally Datto before who has info on the pitfalls that await me would be
appreciated. I look forward to some goss regarding
engine/gearbox/diff/chassis/suspension from any seasoned Datto
owner...................
