Do you know how to find these variants? Name? I doubt Velocity works on my Linux servers but I could be wrong. Not that I'd purposely use a Microsoft product anyway.
I don't see how it matters if the data has changed or not. Expire what is outdated as you'd normally do and assume the rest is valid until it's updated.
