excellent, worked like a champ.  I did get

All tests successful, 2 tests skipped.
Files=23, Tests=936, 32 wallclock secs ( 2.68 cusr +  1.01 csys =
3.69 CPU)

so my next step was to try starting the daemon.  I saw somewhere that
there was an init script in /etc/init.d but didn't see any there.  I
did see some in the scripts directory and memcached-init said it could
be used as a skeleton to contruct a script for /etc/init.d, but I
would have thought there would be one (or several) with the kit.  What
is the recommended way to start it?
