All,

We are implementing a memcached backed cache for one our high
performance eCommerce application and we are noticing the following
performance pattern during our initial performance tests. I would like
to know from the group if any one has concrete data that you can share
regarding the performance of memcached based implementations with
different clients.

Here is our side of the story:

Memcached Clients: Whalin 1.3.2, Whalin 2.0.1, Spy 2.4.2, Spy 2.2
Memcached Server: 1.2.8

1. We ran some performance tests with simple Java objects (approx 2 KB
size) with the above setup and we notice that Whalin 1.3.2 is
performing better than other client variants. This is contrary to our
original expectation that later version of Whalin and Spy offer better
performance comparing to Whalin 1.3.2. Any one else on the same boat?
Or can some one explain if this is indeed what we should expect?

2. We are also noticing that our CPU spikes while performing a
getMulti (about 240 objects per request, and 4 Transactions Per
Second). Does any one know why this might be happening? Or is it what
we should expect?

thanks a lot for any insight into this.

Regards,
