Why not just bring it up on a cheap Linux box? I had a big windows installation, but didn't want to deal with all of the Windows updates, reboots, and other issues. The Linux box has been running for 3+ years, and the cache has never been lost. Just about any old computer with a few GB of RAM will do, and it is relatively easy to bring the box up.
Another issue with running it on something like Vista is the problem of available memory. If you are using this box for development, or for other application purposes, you may have insufficient memory for any real benefit from memcached. By the way, I wouldn't run anything on Vista. Got rid of it the day that Windows 7 came out... I am interested in coding memcached within my project. I would like to use it in my localhost. I have been researching but I am not sure about the installation process on a windows vista computer with WAMP. Is there anyone in here who could give me an idea on how to achieve this? Thanks in advance
