after doing a quick review of our memcached installations, they are not all 1.4.5. in fact, the ones that ARE 1.4.5 are the ones that are not working. the single memcache server with 1.4.2 installed has detail dump working fine. so one of the newer versions may have broken/disabled stats detail.
