Tossed in a few more fixes from the issue tracker, punting on the rest for 1.4.12 since this is so late. I'm going to leave this up for another day or two while I work on the wiki a bit and try to come up with other tests. Slab rebalancing has been a desired feature for a long time; please give it a look-see! It was a pain in the ass to write!
