Your client is probably ancient/unmaintained.

pick a more up to date one? The whalin one was based off of danga, but
might be unmaintained as well. The couchbase and xmemcached ones seem to
get the most love these days.

Something so old just isn't going to be maintainable, and it's going to be
very difficult to help you.
