Bufffff ...long time and since then I did not get it.
Wheh you told to go for "pecl-memcache folks" you meant direclty to 
http://pecl.php.net/support.php ...that's like a nightmare with the old IRC 
methods and so :(

besides I am using memcached 1.4.13
