Stated VERY simply memcached can get and set data in a distributed manner - end of story. CouchBase has the support replication and multiple heads and consistent hashing. What you want is a very intelligent client that would be using couchbase and a BUNCH of specialized code that does not yet exist in open source as of today. Not very complex, but it would need to be written.
