For anyone about to necro this thread again:

I'm pretty sure this is the fix for the original crash, which has now
been "improved" in three different ways.
If you are seeing memcached segfault, please open a new ticket with
information on the backtrace/etc.
These latest fixes should be in 1.4.19 or higher.
