Hi y'all - interesting. I was suprised to learn the name "Subaltern Media." When I was growing up the term Subaltern was solely used to describe a lower rank officer in the British Raj. He may have been oppressed by his superiors, but was in a highly priviledged position regarding the locals. Today it seems the term is used to signify the oppressed in South Asia!
As to the MLK speech, he obviously adored Ghandi, but he could not foresee India gaining nuclear weapons. I fear that his policy of unilateral disarmament or non-violent resistance would not work on the border with Pakistan today.
