Among the topics which will be considered at the conference are the following: * Jewish studies research institutions in the USSR * Yiddish-language higher education in the 1920s and 1930s * Hebraic and Semitic studies in the USSR * The Jewish Historical-Ethnographic Society under Soviet rule (until 1930), and the Jewish Historical-Ethnographic Commission (1981-1987) * The Educational Activities of the Jewish National Movement (1970s to 1991) We invite interested scholars to submit a 250-word proposal summarizing their paper by E-mail to: [email protected] , prior to September 1, 2009. Russian State University for the Humanities will provide housing and meals for all conference participants whose proposals are accepted. The working languages of the conference will be Russian and English; Russian State University for the Humanities Press will publish a volume of the conference proceedings.
