Mendele Personal Notices & Announcements Sept. 18, 2009
To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests: 1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance. 2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding, or attachments. 3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames. _______________________________________________________________________ Date: Mon, 14 Sep 2009 20:48:12 -0400 From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Mendele Personal Fun Der Kalifornyer Institut Far Yidisher Kultur Un Shprakh >From the California Institute for Yiddish Culture and Language Call for entries: THE CIYCL 2009-10 INTERNATIONAL YIDDISH-INTO-ENGLISH ANNUAL POETRY TRANSLATION CONTEST! Calling all poetry mavens! Do you have a favorite Yiddish poet or a poem that has yet to reach the English-speaking masses? Or have you come across a published translation of a wonderful Yiddish poem that perhaps mangles the poetic intentions of its creator? This is your chance for redemption. Just as the Golem rose to life by the sacred words of its creator, breathe new life into your Yiddish poem of choice. Dazzle us with your cross-cultural understanding of the Yiddish and English languages. Impress us with your knowledge of the delicate intricacies and nuances of the mameloshn. First place winners will be announced in Spring 2010 and will receive $180, plus publication on our website and newsletter. Second place winners will receive $50 plus publication on our website. This contest is sponsored by Lee Chesnin and CIYCL Board Member Stephen O. Lesser.
