Mendele Personal Notices & Announcements April 11, 2010
To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests: 1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance. 2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding, or attachments;and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line. 3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames. ______________________________________________________________ Date: March 26, 2010 Subject: Lodz children's music From: [email protected] I'm piecing together a small fragment of a children's musical play, written in late 1943 in the Lodz Ghetto by Yiddish playwrights under the direction of Dawid Bajgelman. The subject of the play was the stock character in Yiddish fairytales, Gonter Kozak. Two of the writers of this unknown work include Szymon Janowski and Abraham Cykiert (recently deceased - my informant from Melbourne, Australia). The project was run from a secret school called "Children for Children" administered by a young couple called Markewicz), and the venue was provided by a Mr. Glaser on Dworska Street numbers 10 and 16 in the Lodz Ghetto. If anyone out there knows of the existence of this project, I would be extremely interested to hear from them. Many thanks in advance, Joseph Toltz ______________________________________________________ Please do not use the "reply" key when writing to Mendele.
