The appointment is for up to three years (with the possibility of renewal), beginning September 1, 2012 and ending in April of the identified year. The Lecturer will be expected to teach six courses per academic year with the focus on teaching Yiddish language courses in Judaic Studies to undergraduate and graduate students. Up to two courses may be on some aspect of Yiddish culture in English translation. This appointment is benefits eligible. Application Deadline: March 30, 2012. We anticipate extending an offer to the successful candidate by April 30, 2012. Applicants must have native or near-native proficiency in Yiddish, be capable of teaching language courses from beginning to advanced, and have some pedagogic experience. Ann Arbor has become a major center for Yiddish Studies and we seek someone who can complement faculty offerings in Yiddish literature, culture, history. The candidate must demonstrate complete proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Yiddish. Prior teaching experience is a high priority.
