________________________________ Mendele Personal Notices and Announcements
October 16, 2012 To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests: 1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance. 2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding,or attachments;and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line. 3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames. From: Goldie Morgentaler <[email protected]> Date: Oct. 4, 2012 On November 4th, there is going to be a staged reading in English by Threshold Theatre of Toronto of Chava Rosenfarb's play "The Bird of the Ghetto." The play tells the story of the Vilna Ghetto resistance leader Isaac Wittenberg. It was originally written and published in Yiddish. It was performed by the Habimah in Israel in a Hebrew translation in the late 1960s. The present production uses my translation into English. I am attaching the link to the poster. http://www.thresholdtheatre.ca/Threshold_Theatre/The_Bird_of_the_Ghetto.html Also, for those who are not aware of it, Rosenfarb's essay on the Lodz ghetto poet, Simkha-Bunim Shayevitch was published in English in September in Tablet Magazine .
