Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames. ___________________________________ From: [email protected] via mx.aol.com Yiddish follows English A Celebration of Contemporary Yiddish Writing This Sunday, May 5, at 6:30 PM, in Mendelson Auditorium at the Jewish Theological Seminary, 122nd St. and Broadway, Manhattan, the League for Yiddish in conjunction with the Program in Modern Jewish Studies of JTS, will celebrate the publication of “New Yiddish Literature,” issue #358-359 of the magazine Afn Shvel, published by the League for Yiddish. This unique volume contains the poetry, prose fiction, drama and memoirs of 30 people writing in Yiddish today, ranging from college students to older established Yiddish writers. The all-Yiddish program features a dramatic reading of excerpts from some of these works by Yiddish actor and director Hy Wolfe, a discussion on “Prospects for Contemporary Yiddish Writing” with Dr. Marc Caplan of John Hopkins University, Dr. Dov-Ber Kerler of University of Indiana, Bloomington, and Dr. Sheva Zucker, editor of Afn Shvel. Songwriter and film director Josh Waletzky will sing from his own repertoire. Dr. David G. Roskies, Henkind Chair in Yiddish Literature at JTS will extend greetings. Dr. Elissa Bemporad of Queens College will chair the program.
