Hi Steve, Arash,

Not to be seen as an official RIPE NCC statement, but let me clarify to what
happened here.

The Persian IGF is just starting up as another regional IGF. It is similar to
ArabIGF, but it aims to include the wider Farsi speaking community. While there
might be some geographical overlap, there is a distinct difference.

As with all IGFs it is an open initiative to which participation is not
restricted/limited, but at the same time to main goal of these regional and
local fora is to bring together people from a specific region to increase
participation, discuss what is going on on both naional, regional and global
level, making sure that this voice is relayed towards the global discussions
where necessary.

The PersianIGF like others has its owm maiing list, website and discussion fora
and as a they are starting up need to do some outreach. MENOG includes Iran and
as such there might be people from the technical community on this list that
take interest in this initiative and would like to follow up.

And that is what happened here, there is no list merger or anything else, just
an announcement of some initiative taking place that might be of interest to
some of the member of the MENOG community. It is in the nature of lists like
this that these announcements get send, in the past other initiatives and
organisations have taken the same route to get some attention for what they
were planning for.

And personally I see this as conforming that MENOG is indeed the place to get
to if you want to reach the operational community in the Middle East and as
such does what it was setup to do. It might not be relevant to everybody on
this list, but hardly any topic will always ever be as interesting to
individual members. Just as not everybody has an equal interest in DNS and
routing topics.
