I'm posting this here because at the moment I cannot easily use lighthouseapp. This is yet another China firewall issue. merb.lighthouseapp.com is the intended way to get to this project. Cool, I like the approach. But subdomains are generally not replicated by default in China's DNS system. We really need alternate project home links like lighthouseapp.com/project/merb. This would work with the China DNS system.
To give a second example, my google apps mail should be accessible from mail.shellshadow.com. All is set up correctly for this and from the U.S. it routes just fine. But inside China I have to use mail.google.com/a/shellshadow.com to get to my home page. This sort of thing is only getting tighter over here. Best to start to understand the limitations that web app with global exposure will have from within China. Also know that changing IP addresses with your servers can cause long term disruptions with China's DNS system catching up to the change. This type of IP "hopping" is going to happen more and more as its easy to move services to different server in the cloud. A smart admin will simply think he can do the move and change a DNS record or two and within a few hours, the entire internet is back on track. This is simply not true for how China receives and updates DNS changes. I would report this problem on lighthouse now, but I can only login to the gitx lighthouse project (I did this by finding a message reply link in one of the emails lighthouse sent me. That link didn't have the gitx subdomain prefix so I could get to the page and then login. But after login, I try to get to the general lighthouse forums page (so I could report this problem in a more appropriate forum) and it doesn't recognize my existing login and attempts to re-login from this general forum do not work when using the sam id/password that allowed my to login to the gitx project. Its all a bit odd. In addition to this oddity, I notice that the lighthouseapp.com home page has links to sign-up, but not a link to sign-in. So my point is that navigation and sgn-in in lighthouse seems to be project centric with the precondition that you can get to the suibdomain page, which of course, at least for now, in China you cannot. So I'm hoping there is someone on thie merb group that can get me in direct contact with a lighthouse person so I can better explain these URL, subdomain, and signin needs unique to users inside China. thanks, Jon --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "merb" group.
