Hm, so,

Installing --...
Failed to install gem '-- (any version)' (could not find gem --
locally or in a repository)
Installing --with-mysql-lib=/my/dir...
Failed to install gem '--with-mysql-lib=/my/dir (any version)' (could
not find gem --with-mysql-lib=/my/dir locally or in a repository)

So...that doesn't work.
