I would love to be able to do this. I use nginx for access logging so
I can feed its "common" logfile format into webalizer, I'm only really
interested in the errors on the application side. I suppose I could
just set the logger to 'error' level and do it that way.

If you've never seen it, Log4r is a lot more feature-rich than ruby's
Logger class and lets you do things like separate files for different
levels. I haven't seen a lot of people use it though, so I'm not sure
if people are avoiding that project for some reason unknown to me.
