I spent some time today working on http://wiki.merbivore.com. It was not a particularly efficient or pleasant experience; here are some specific problems I noticed:
Limitations Dokuwiki has some nice user-interface features, but it is a very low-end wiki, in terms of capabilities. I frequently found myself "dumbing down" my presentation to fit within the limitations of Dokuwiki markup. Given that the wiki is still quite sparsely populated, this would be a good time to jump to another, more powerful wiki. I would prefer TWiki, because it supports access controls, full HTML support, scripting, and so forth. MediaWiki is less capable, but is also a reasonable alternative. Unreliability I received occasional "502 Bad Gateway" messages on pages that I had been editing, wanted to examine, etc. After a while (and some retries), the page would appear. Still, this is a waste of the user's time and a source of unnecessary stress. -r -- http://www.cfcl.com/rdm Rich Morin http://www.cfcl.com/rdm/resume [email protected] http://www.cfcl.com/rdm/weblog +1 650-873-7841 Technical editing and writing, programming, and web development --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "merb" group.
