I don't have any particular problems with datamapper. I knew for sure at the outset that Rails had the much more active and vibrant userbase, but that I needed datamapper in so adopted merb despite the misgivings about support. (i could have possibly made rails work with dm but that would have been less than out of the box.)
Merb has a high developer to user ratio, which befits a nimbler, more progressive framework. Rails is a big ship carrying a mainstream base. Merb's nimbleness is the reason for the merge in the first place. They are what they are. I know the situation, I just wish the "average" user of merb received more support.
