Hi guys,
Not sure how we went from Mercedes-Benz cars to this discussion about
ammo and I hope this doesn't get me painted with some broad brush, but
I've learned more about ammo than I ever wanted to know. I'm not
antigun and have even considered getting a shotgun for personal
protection.
But, can this discussion about ammo and why whatever is better than
something else be handled off line. Just not my thing!
Thanks,
Chuck

Force=M*V2 - that mass times velocity squared. So increasing the mass

In the case of killing force alot of it depends on how good the bullet
is at staying inside the body. To go really fast you need a bullet
that will stay together and not mushroom, to kill people you need a
bullet that will mushroom or even better separate into pieces that
will radiate to the point of impact. The steel core stuff is good at
that, the core holds things together through the air, the jacket takes
off on its on course once it enters the body while the core continues
on.
Other things that make the smaller round superior is that its
lighter/smaller so you can carry more of them. In an accurate firearm
where every shot counts every round counts and the ability to carry
10-15 extra shots makes a difference.

what is the advantage though over something like a .308? frankly, if i
had
to shoot someone, i'd rather do it with a .308 than .223. I am missing
something?
