Since I got the 300D, I have changed the oil and filter in the engine - WIX
filter - no new "O" ring as the one they send with the filter does not fit
the MB. No new small "O" rings on the engine part that I hear referred to in
regard to oil pressure guage fluctuation.

Used Shell Oil - 15W40. No fancy synthetic until I replace the valve cover
gasket as it appears to leak at the back of the engine.

Also replaced the air filter element with a WIX brand unit.

That is it so far.

How do I know when the fuel filter(s) should be attended to? Seems to run
fine (but I am no expert on these things either).
If I recall various posts, there is a screen in the tank ( I assume is
removed by unscrewing the plug in the bottom of the tank - recent talk of
using a spark plug socket to fit the large allen wrench hole??).

I also see what I assume is a filter housing under the hood with a drain
plug near the bottom. Do I have to bleed this thing in some manner if I
change it so that it doesn't pump air into the injector pump??

Fill me in or point me in the right direction. I have no previous Diesel
history whatsoever.

I have wanted a Diesel Benz for a long time and am now thinking I might look
at the Dodge trucks with a Cummins as well.
