123 Euro 300Ds used 722.1 (early) or 722.4 (late) series transmissions,
300D turbos used 722.3 series transmissions (except the '85 California
certified 300D turbos that used a 722.4 tranny).

I haven't followed the changeover for 123s carefully (haven't own one
since 1987), but I believe they all (even 240Ds) used 722.4s by late '83
- maybe even sooner.
