OK, parly answere my own question, 123.033 was available at dealerships if the MBUSA EPC is correct, with M110.984 engine. Looks like it was carburated.

However, EPC does not indicate that a manual transmission was available, so this car still may be a euro.

Meade, By definition a 123.033 280E in '77-'85 had a fuel injected engine - that's what the "E" stood for, but it wasn't available in the US! The 110.988 engine had mechanical injection using CIS injection control, 9:1 compression, made 185 hp (DIN that's about 182 SAE hp) and required premium fuel. It could be had with a 4 or 5 (only '83-'86) speed manual or an automatic. The US version of this engine only developed 137-142 hp (SAE) and never with a manual transmission.

A carbureted 280 wouldn't have an "E" attached to it (not sure there was ever a carbureted 280 engine in a 123 chassis available in the US - there were carbureted 250s and older "S" class 280Ss).
