Still batteling withe my old beast.

I tested the advance just now and I don't have any.

My model comes with the factory emmisions so the distributor has an advance and 
retard line.

The retard has vacuum. The advance does not. They connect to a 3 way pot, with 
an electrical conneciton, on the passenger side of the firewall.

At idle the advace should have 0 vacuum and as the RPMs go up the device on the 
firewall should open and allow the advance to kick in.

I put a vacuum gauge on it and from idle all the way to 4000 RPM the gauge 
stayed at 0.

Is there any way to test the 3 way valve? should I be able to run compressed 
air through it? do these thing seal up ? will PB blaster or something help? 
should the retard shut off at any point?

How does the system "know" when to kick in the advance?
